Center Console Safe

I was planning to make a long road trip and wanted a way to keep my personal things safe such as passports and cash. Sure the truck doors lock, but that doesn't stop someone from smashing a window. The center console of my 2000 Chevy Silverado had room for a 6 pack of 16oz waterbottles. Way too much. So I decided to take up about of half of it with a custom home made safety box / safe.

First thing needed was a frame which would then use the bottom 4 mounting bolts which hold the plastic console to the floorboard.

I cut out a cardboard template and then used that for the 14 gauge sheetmetal lid.

Then I finished welding everything up. It would take a much more serious thief to break through this thing.

And after a coat of rustoleum paint, it almost looks factory! Probably a thief would not even notice that there was somthing underneath. For the length of the use of this vehicle, this lock box served me very well!
